Christian Schad - Schadographs.
Christian Schads schadographs are among the earliest intentional abstract photographs, using the cameraless photogram techinique. However he preferred worn materials, such as scraps of paper and bits of fabric, often searching for these things on the streets and in garbage cans. Schad frequently extended his assault on artistic tradition by cutting a jagged border around the schadographs, "to free them," as he explained, "from the convention of the square."
Man Ray - Rayographs.
A photogram is a picture made without a camera on photographic paper only using light and objects. However, to create a rayograph the paper is exposed 3 times rather than just once, and every time it is exposed, a different object is placed on the photographic paper, acting as a stencil and where the paper is not masked, it darkens. Man Ray claimed to have invented the photogram, which he called the rayograph Although, in fact, the practice had existed since the earliest days of photography, he was justified in the artistic sense, for in his hands the photogram was not a mechanical copy but an "unpredictable pictorial adventure."
László Moholy-Nagy.
A photogram is a photographic image that is made without a camera. Objects are placed directly onto the surface of a light-sensitive photographic paper and then exposed to light in a darkroom. The paper is then developed by using light-sensitive chemicals in the darkroom.

The Journey Project.
|
Initially, I found this project quite confusing and dull.I was unsure of what type of journey to create because during the process of thinking of what I wanted to do and how I wanted to present it, I always was lead back to the idea of a literal journey, a walk, a ride on the bus or a train, and I couldn't really think beyond that. However, after watching the video of the artist Daido Moriyama, ideas started flowing, and it was all elucidated. Moriyama perceives the world as "an erotic place", his senses draw him to different things all over his city that lead him into taking his photos. Most of his images are of people and the city itself due to his belief of the city having character itself when its crowded especially, which is why he is so drawn to it and due to his photography, he is able to connect his images, piece them together and that is what makes the city his home.

My Journey.
|
Watching the video of Moriyama gave me perspective and excitement to go out and take photos. However, I encountered another dilemma during the process of wanting to take these new photos. I didn't think I could really show a journey through them the way I wanted to, thus leading me to create this 5 minute video. I recorded the video clips and with the help of one of my friends who edited the video helped bring my thoughts to life and solidified my idea into becoming what it is now. Not only does the video itself show a journey, but the process itself was a journey, mental as well as physical. I wanted to create a video that really out both the ideas of a journey to perspective, the mental and physical aspects and that is why the video has a dream like feel to it and constant movement throughout.
